Best Countries to Visit from India on a Budget (2026 Edition)
Looking for the best countries to visit from India without overspending? These destinations are selected based on affordability, easy visa policies, and overall travel experience for Indian tourists.
In 2026, some of the best places to visit outside India in low budget include Nepal, Sri Lanka, Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, and Indonesia (Bali). Each delivers a strong mix of low daily expenses, excellent flight connectivity from India, and a wide range of experiences — from beaches and ancient temples to mountain treks and world-class street food.
These are also consistently ranked among the cheap countries to visit from India because of their Indian-friendly food options, straightforward visa access, and outstanding value for rupee. For travellers specifically looking for countries near India to visit on a tight budget, destinations like Nepal, Bhutan, Sri Lanka, and the Maldives are within a 2–4 hour flight — and some are even reachable overland. Meanwhile, Southeast Asian nations like Thailand, Malaysia, and Cambodia rank as the top 10 cheapest countries to visit from India in 2026 for value-per-day. Read on for full cost breakdowns, visa info, and insider Gujarati tips for each destination.
1. Nepal — Most Affordable, Visa-Free for Indians
Nepal is consistently the cheapest country to visit from India in 2026 — and the easiest. No visa required, Indian Rupees are accepted in most tourist areas, and the exchange rate works in your favour (1 INR = 1.60 NPR). For those wondering where to travel cheap without worrying about visa paperwork, Nepal is the obvious answer. A 5-day Kathmandu and Pokhara trip costs as little as ₹25,000 per person on a budget, including return flights from Ahmedabad — making it one of the most spectacular cheap international vacations from India you can plan on short notice.
5-Day Cost Breakdown
| Cost Item | Budget Traveller | Mid-Range (3-Star) |
|---|
| Flights (AMD, return) | ₹20,000 – 24,000 | ₹24,000 – 30,000 |
| Accommodation / night | ₹900 – 1,500 | ₹1,800 – 3,500 |
| Food / day | ₹600 – 900 | ₹1,200 – 2,000 |
| Local transport / day | ₹300 – 500 | ₹600 – 1,200 |
| Total 5-day trip (per person) | ₹25,000 – 38,000 | ₹42,000 – 60,000 |
Visa for Indians
- No visa required, by treaty (Indo-Nepal Treaty of Peace and Friendship, 1950) — there is no fixed tourist stay limit for Indians.
- Carry a valid Indian passport (mandatory for air travel) or Voter ID (accepted on land routes only).
- Aadhaar card is not accepted for international air travel.
- No currency conversion needed — Indian Rupees are widely accepted in Kathmandu and Pokhara tourist areas (notes of ₹100 and below in any amount; notes above ₹100 up to a combined ₹25,000).
Best Time to Visit
October–November for clear Himalayan views and festivals. March–April for spring trekking season. Avoid July–August (peak monsoon, landslide risk on trekking routes).
Flights from Ahmedabad (AMD)
IndiGo and Air India operate AMD → KTM with a connection via Delhi or Mumbai. Return fares currently range from ₹20,000 – ₹24,000 booked 6–8 weeks ahead. The AMD–DEL–KTM route via IndiGo typically saves ₹3,000–5,000 versus other options.
Top Experiences
- Kathmandu: Durbar Square, Pashupatinath Temple (one of the most sacred Shiva temples in South Asia), Boudhanath Stupa
- Pokhara: Phewa Lake boating, Sarangkot sunrise hike, paragliding (₹4,500–6,000)
- Poon Hill Trek (4–5 days, ₹3,000–5,000 including permits) — most popular beginner trek
- Chitwan National Park: jeep safari, elephant bathing, jungle canoe (₹4,000+ per person)
🇮🇳 GujjuTours Gujarati & Jain Tip:- Pure vegetarian and Jain food is easily available in Kathmandu's Thamel area.
- OR2K and Roadhouse Cafe have dedicated veg menus.
- Pashupatinath Temple is a deeply spiritual experience for Gujarati Hindu families. Carry ₹500 notes — most shops in Thamel accept INR directly.
- Pre-book AMD–DEL–KTM route for best fares rather than direct AMD–KTM.

2. Sri Lanka — Free ETA for Indians
Sri Lanka is one of best budget-friendly countries to visit in 2026. Effective 25 May 2026, Sri Lanka rolled out a fee-free tourist ETA for 40 nationalities including India — Indian nationals can now get a free, double-entry, 30-day ETA, but the ETA itself is still mandatory (this is different from the brief "no ETA needed at all" announcement floated in February 2026, which was superseded by this formal scheme). If you're searching for cheap places to visit outside India that combine tropical beauty with cultural depth, Sri Lanka is hard to beat. A 5-day trip covering Colombo, Kandy, and Ella from Ahmedabad comfortably fits under ₹45,000 on a budget.
5-Day Cost Breakdown
| Cost Item | Budget Traveller | Mid-Range (3-Star) |
|---|
| Flights (AMD, return) | ₹18,000 – 26,000 | ₹26,000 – 38,000 |
| ETA / Visa fee | FREE (ETA mandatory, no charge) | FREE |
| Accommodation / night | ₹1,200 – 2,000 | ₹2,500 – 5,000 |
| Food / day | ₹600 – 900 | ₹1,200 – 2,000 |
| Local transport / day | ₹500 – 800 | ₹1,000 – 2,000 |
| Total 5-day trip (per person) | ₹28,000 – 42,000 | ₹48,000 – 65,000 |

- Carry: valid Indian passport (6-month validity), confirmed return ticket, and hotel booking. Standard stay: 30 days, double-entry, extendable.
Best Time to Visit
December–March for west coast (Colombo, Galle, Mirissa). May–August for east coast (Trincomalee, Arugam Bay). Hill country (Kandy, Ella) is pleasant year-round.
Top Experiences
- Sigiriya Rock Fortress (UNESCO)
- Ella: Nine Arch Bridge, Little Adam's Peak, Ella Rock hike
- Kandy: Temple of the Tooth Relic (Sri Dalada Maligawa)
- Mirissa: whale watching (blue whales, Nov–April)

| Total 5-day trip (per person) | ₹25,000 – 42,000 | ₹45,000 – 65,000 |

- Carry: valid Indian passport (6-month validity) OR Voter ID card.
- Children under 18 need a birth certificate in English. SDF of ₹1,200 per person per night is mandatory and paid during permit application — this rate is fixed through 31 August 2027.
- From 1 January 2026, a 5% GST applies to tourism services in Bhutan (not to the SDF itself), which will add a small amount to hotel/tour costs.
- No SDF for border town day visits (Phuentsholing) of 24 hours or less.
Best Time to Visit
March–May (spring, rhododendrons in bloom, Tiger's Nest accessible). September–November (clear Himalayan skies, Thimphu Tshechu festival). Avoid June–August (heavy monsoon, mountain roads dangerous).
Flights from Ahmedabad (AMD)
Most Gujarati travellers go by road: Ahmedabad → Kolkata or Bagdogra (train/flight) → Phuentsholing (4-hour road transfer). Budget AMD–CCU train + road is ₹8,000–12,000 per person. Direct Druk Air flights from Kolkata to Paro also available. Book IRCTC train tickets 60–120 days in advance.
Top Experiences
- Tiger's Nest Monastery (Paro Taktsang) — iconic 3-hour hike, entry Nu 1,000 (~₹950)
- Thimphu: Buddha Dordenma statue, Folk Heritage Museum, Weekend Market
- Punakha Dzong — stunning fortress at the confluence of two rivers
- Chele La Pass (3,988m) — highest motorable pass in Bhutan, panoramic Himalayan views
- Paro Dzong and National Museum — excellent for Buddhist art and history
🇮🇳 GujjuTours Gujarati & Jain Tip:- Bhutan is Buddhist and vegetarian Gujarati food is manageable — hotels serve Indian veg meals on request, especially in Thimphu and Paro.
- Bring your own stock of khakhras, dry snacks, and namkeen from Ahmedabad. Ema Datshi (chilli cheese stew) can be made without meat.
- Bhutanese handicrafts (thangka paintings, wooden bowls) make excellent gifts and are government-price regulated.
- INR is accepted everywhere alongside Bhutanese Ngultrum (1:1 parity).

Many travellers wondering where to travel cheap from India turn to Southeast Asia for its unbeatable combination of affordability, easy visas, and incredible variety. The destinations below are not only among top 10 cheapest countries to travel from India for value-per-day. Whether it's Thailand's beaches, Vietnam's landscapes, or Malaysia's multicultural food scene, these are the finest international destinations for budget-conscious Indian travellers in 2026.
4. Thailand — Visa-Free 60 Days for Indians (Rule Currently Under Review)
⚠️ Important — Read Before Booking Thailand: On 19 May 2026 the Thai Cabinet gave in-principle approval to move India from the visa-free list to a Visa-on-Arrival category (15-day stay, fee payable in cash at the airport). However, this change only takes legal effect 15 days after it is published in Thailand's Royal Gazette by the Ministry of Interior — and as of this update, that publication has not happened. Until it is published, Indian passport holders continue to enter Thailand visa-free for 60 days exactly as below. Because the gazette notification could be published at any time and the new rules would apply just 15 days later, check thaiembassy.in or the Royal Thai Embassy's latest statement a few days before you fly, especially if your travel dates are more than 2–3 weeks out.
Thailand currently allows Indian nationals visa-free entry for up to 60 days (in effect since February 13, 2026). Whether you're planning a Bangkok city break or a Phuket beach holiday, Thailand offers some of the best places to visit outside India in low budget in all of Asia. A 5-day Bangkok and Pattaya trip or Phuket/Krabi beach holiday is achievable under ₹55,000 from Ahmedabad — provided the current visa-free rule still applies on your travel date.
5-Day Cost Breakdown (under the current visa-free rule)
| Cost Item | Budget Traveller | Mid-Range (3-Star) |
|---|
| Flights (AMD, return) | ₹22,000 – 35,000 | ₹32,000 – 45,000 |
| Accommodation / night | ₹1,200 – 2,000 | ₹2,500 – 5,000 |
| Food / day | ₹800 – 1,200 | ₹1,500 – 2,500 |
| Local transport / day | ₹500 – 800 | ₹1,000 – 2,000 |
| Total 5-day trip (per person) | ₹33,000 – 50,000 | ₹50,000 – 68,000 |
If the Visa-on-Arrival rule comes into force before your trip, add roughly 2,000 THB (~₹4,800–5,800) cash per person for the VoA fee, and plan for a maximum 15-day stay instead of 60.
Visa for Indians — Current Status
- Visa-free countries for Indian passport 2026 — Thailand is, for now, Visa-Free for 60 days per entry.
- Pending change: Once the Thai Ministry of Interior's notification is published in the Royal Gazette, Indians move to a Visa-on-Arrival category (one of only four countries singled out for VoA rather than the reduced 30-day visa-free tier given to most other nationalities), with a 15-day stay and a roughly 2,000 THB cash fee at the airport. The new rule applies 15 days after publication.
- Regardless of which rule is active, you must complete the Thailand Digital Arrival Card (TDAC) online at tdac.immigration.go.th within 72 hours before boarding — airlines check this at check-in.
- If visa-free: extension of 30 days possible at any Thai immigration office (fee: 1,900 THB / ~₹4,500).
Best Time to Visit
November–February (cool and dry, ideal for Bangkok, Chiang Mai, and beaches). March–April (hot, good for islands). Avoid May–October on Andaman coast (heavy monsoon). Gulf of Thailand side (Koh Samui) is better June–August.
Flights from Ahmedabad (AMD)
Thai AirAsia, IndiGo, and Air India offer AMD → BKK connections via Mumbai or Delhi. Thai Lion Air and Vietjet also operate AMD–BKK routes. Return fares from ₹22,000 booked 6–8 weeks ahead. AMD → HKT (Phuket) fares from ₹28,000 return.
Top Experiences
- Bangkok: Grand Palace, Wat Pho, Chatuchak Weekend Market
- Phuket: Phi Phi Islands day trip (₹2,500), Patong Beach, Big Buddha
- Krabi: Railay Beach (boat access only), Tiger Cave Temple, 4 Islands tour
- Chiang Mai: Doi Suthep Temple, Night Bazaar, ethical elephant sanctuary day trip
- Pattaya: Coral Island, Nong Nooch Tropical Garden — most popular with Indian group tours
🇮🇳 GujjuTours Gujarati & Jain Tip:- Vegetarians can manage in Thailand by saying 'Jay' (เจ) which signals Buddhist vegan food (no meat, no fish sauce, no eggs).
- In Pattaya and Bangkok, several dedicated Indian vegetarian restaurants operate near Sukhumvit and tourist zones.
- Jain travellers: always specify no fish sauce (nam pla) — it is used as a base in most Thai sauces.
- Download a Thai dietary restriction card before you go.

5. Malaysia — Visa-Free Until Dec 2026 for Indians
Malaysia offers Indians visa-free access until December 31, 2026 under its Visit Malaysia 2026 campaign — confirmed directly on Malaysia's Immigration Department website. With Kuala Lumpur's iconic skyline, UNESCO-listed George Town in Penang, and a thriving Indian community, Malaysia stands out as one of the most budget-friendly countries to visit from India in 2026. It's especially popular with Gujarati families for its abundance of vegetarian South Indian restaurants and familiar cultural touchpoints. A 5-day KL and Penang trip from Ahmedabad fits well under ₹60,000 — making it a firm favourite in any list of cheap international vacations from India.
5-Day Cost Breakdown
| Cost Item | Budget Traveller | Mid-Range (3-Star) |
|---|
| Flights (AMD, return) | ₹22,000 – 38,000 | ₹35,000 – 50,000 |
| Accommodation / night | ₹1,500 – 2,500 | ₹3,000 – 6,000 |
| Food / day | ₹700 – 1,200 | ₹1,500 – 2,800 |
| Local transport / day | ₹400 – 700 | ₹800 – 1,500 |
| Total 5-day trip (per person) | ₹32,000 – 50,000 | ₹50,000 – 70,000 |

Best Time to Visit
December–March for west coast (KL, Penang, Langkawi). May–October for east coast (Tioman, Perhentian, Sipadan). Avoid November for KL and Penang (heavy rain).
Flights from Ahmedabad (AMD)
AirAsia, IndiGo, and Malaysia Airlines operate AMD → KUL (Kuala Lumpur) with connections via Mumbai or Bangalore. Return fares from ₹22,000 booked in advance. Watch for AirAsia Freedom Sales for fares as low as ₹15,000 return.

- Genting Highlands: theme park, cool mountain weather — hugely popular with Indian families

🇮🇳 GujjuTours Gujarati & Jain Tip:- Malaysia is outstanding for vegetarian Gujaratis — the Tamil Indian community has established hundreds of pure vegetarian South Indian restaurants (banana leaf rice, idli, dosai) across KL (Brickfields = Little India), Penang, and Ipoh.
- For Jain requirements, communicate clearly as some base gravies use onion-garlic.
- Avoid arriving at land borders from Thailand — the visa-free arrangement applies by air only.

6. Vietnam — e-Visa Required, Breathtaking Landscapes
Vietnam delivers some of Southeast Asia's most spectacular scenery — Ha Long Bay, Hoi An's ancient town, Sapa's rice terraces, and the buzzing streets of Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City — all at prices that make it one of the cheapest countries to visit from India in Asia. The rupee stretches exceptionally far here. Indians require an e-Visa (around USD 25 / ₹2,100–2,500 for single entry, more for multiple entry) from evisa.gov.vn, now valid for up to 90 days with unlimited entries/exits during that window. A well-planned 5-day trip fits comfortably within ₹50,000 — outstanding value for one of the world's most visually stunning destinations.
5-Day Cost Breakdown
| Cost Item | Budget Traveller | Mid-Range (3-Star) |
|---|
| Flights (AMD, return) | ₹25,000 – 40,000 | ₹38,000 – 52,000 |
| e-Visa fee | ~USD 25 (₹2,100–2,500) – single entry | ~USD 50 (₹4,200) – multiple entry |
| Accommodation / night | ₹1,200 – 2,000 | ₹2,800 – 6,000 |
| Food / day | ₹600 – 1,000 | ₹1,200 – 2,200 |
| Local transport / day | ₹400 – 700 | ₹800 – 1,500 |
| Total 5-day trip (per person) | ₹35,000 – 52,000 | ₹52,000 – 72,000 |
Visa for Indians
- e-Visa required for Indians — India is not on Vietnam's visa-free list.
- Apply at evisa.gov.vn (processing typically 3 working days; the e-visa itself is now valid for 90 days with multiple entries/exits within that window).
- Important: The entry port you select at application time must match your flight arrival city (Hanoi, Da Nang, or Ho Chi Minh City).
- Phu Quoc exemption — read carefully: Phu Quoc Island offers a 30-day visa-free stay, but only if you (a) fly or sail directly to Phu Quoc from outside Vietnam, (b) stay exclusively on the island, and (c) exit Vietnam directly from Phu Quoc to another country. The Indian Embassy in Hanoi issued an advisory in April 2026 warning that travellers who enter Phu Quoc visa-free and then need to visit the mainland (even for a medical emergency) get stuck without a valid visa — apply for a full e-visa instead if there's any chance you'll leave the island.
Best Time to Visit
February–April for central Vietnam (Da Nang, Hoi An) and Hanoi. November–January for southern Vietnam (Ho Chi Minh City, Mekong Delta). October–November for Ha Long Bay (calm seas, fewer typhoons). Avoid September–October in central regions (typhoon risk).
Top Experiences
- Ha Long Bay: overnight cruise on traditional junk boat (from USD 50 / ₹4,200 per person)
- Hoi An Ancient Town (UNESCO): lantern festival, tailoring, Thu Bon River boat ride
- Ho Chi Minh City: War Remnants Museum, Cu Chi Tunnels (half-day), Ben Thanh Market
- Sapa: rice terraces, trekking with local guides to ethnic minority villages (best March–May, Sep–Nov)
- Hue Imperial Citadel: royal tombs, Thien Mu Pagoda, Perfume River boat trip
🇮🇳 GujjuTours Gujarati & Jain Tip: Vegetarian eating in Vietnam requires extra care — fish sauce (nuoc cham) is used in almost everything. Buddhist vegetarian restaurants (Com Chay) serve strictly meat-free food — look for the yellow flag with Chinese characters in Hoi An and Ho Chi Minh City. Download a Vietnamese vegetarian card before travel. Pho can be ordered with vegetable broth. Carry Indian instant food and protein snacks from home.
7. Indonesia (Bali) — Visa on Arrival, Hindu Island & Temples
Bali is the jewel of Southeast Asia for Indian travellers — a Hindu-majority island with familiar culture, ancient temples, extraordinary rice terraces, and stunning beaches. It's one of the top best international destinations from India for families, honeymooners, and solo travellers alike. The Visa on Arrival (IDR 500,000 / approximately ₹2,800–2,900) is obtained directly at Ngurah Rai International Airport, or in advance online as an e-VOA. On top of the visa, every visitor must separately pay the Bali Tourist Levy of IDR 150,000 (~₹800), introduced in February 2024 to fund conservation and infrastructure — many guides miss this second fee. A 5-day Bali trip covering Ubud, Seminyak, and Tanah Lot fits under ₹55,000 — making it one of the most memorable cheap places to visit outside India that will feel far from cheap in experience. See our guide to best hidden gems in Bali and romantic things to do in Bali.

| Total 5-day trip (per person) | ₹39,000 – 56,000 | ₹57,000 – 83,000 |

Best Time to Visit
April–October (dry season — Bali at its best). May, June, and September are ideal (less crowded than July–August peak). November–March is wet season (green landscapes, lower prices, occasional flooding in south Bali).
Top Experiences

🇮🇳 GujjuTours Gujarati & Jain Tip:- Bali is a Hindu island — Pura (temples), offerings, and Balinese Hindu ceremonies will feel spiritually familiar to Gujarati families.
- Pure vegetarian food is widely available in Ubud (home to many vegan and raw food cafes).
- Warung restaurants serve Nasi Goreng (fried rice) which can be made vegetarian — specify clearly.
- Wear a sarong at temple entrances (provided at most temples). Respectful dress is expected at all religious sites.
8. Cambodia — e-Visa, Home of Angkor Wat
Cambodia anchors its appeal on the spectacular Angkor Archaeological Park — the largest religious monument complex in the world, covering 400 sq km. Daily living costs are some of the lowest in Southeast Asia, making it one of the most affordable entries on any list of top 10 cheapest countries to visit from India. The e-Visa is quick (around 3 days, USD 30). A 5-day Siem Reap and Phnom Penh trip from Ahmedabad fits around ₹45,000–55,000 — exceptional value for such a historically rich destination.
5-Day Cost Breakdown
| Cost Item | Budget Traveller | Mid-Range (3-Star) |
|---|
| Flights (AMD, return) | ₹25,000 – 40,000 | ₹38,000 – 52,000 |
| e-Visa / Visa on Arrival fee | USD 30 (~₹2,550) | USD 30 (~₹2,550) |
| Accommodation / night | ₹800 – 1,500 | ₹2,000 – 4,500 |
| Food / day | ₹600 – 900 | ₹1,200 – 2,000 |
| Local transport / day | ₹400 – 700 | ₹800 – 1,500 |
| Total 5-day trip (per person) | ₹33,000 – 50,000 | ₹50,000 – 68,000 |
Visa for Indians
- e-Visa required for Indians — Cambodia is not on the visa-free list for India. Apply at evisa.gov.kh (USD 30, processing around 3 business days, valid 30 days single entry, accepted at major airports and select land borders).
- Visa on Arrival is also available at Phnom Penh, Siem Reap, and Sihanoukville airports for the same USD 30 fee.
- A free e-Arrival Card must be submitted online before air arrivals.
- e-Visa is strongly recommended over Visa on Arrival to avoid queues during peak season (November–March).
Best Time to Visit
November–March (dry season, comfortable for Angkor exploration, cooler temperatures). Avoid May–October (heavy monsoon — though Angkor's moats fill beautifully).
Top Experiences
- Angkor Wat at sunrise — one of the greatest sights on Earth (1-day pass USD 37 / 3-day pass USD 62)
- Bayon Temple at Angkor Thom — 54 massive towers with carved faces
- Phnom Penh: Royal Palace, Silver Pagoda, Tuol Sleng Genocide Museum
- Tonle Sap Lake: floating villages, bird watching, boat tours (best dry season)
- Siem Reap Night Market: budget food, shopping, cheapest beer in Southeast Asia
🇮🇳 GujjuTours Gujarati & Jain Tip:- Vegetarian options in Cambodia require careful navigation — Khmer cuisine uses fish paste (prahok) widely.
- Buddhist vegetarian restaurants (Com Chay) exist in Siem Reap's tourist zone. Indian restaurants operate near Pub Street.
- Show restaurant staff a translated vegetarian card.
- Carry Indian instant food as backup. USD is universally accepted in Cambodia — the national currency Riel is rarely used in tourist areas.
9. Maldives — Free Visa on Arrival for Indians
The Maldives is no longer just a luxury destination — staying on local inhabited islands makes it genuinely accessible for budget Indian travellers. Indians receive a completely free 30-day Visa on Arrival, with zero fees and no prior application. This makes it one of the rarest cheapest country to visit from India without visa cost entries on this list. The key to budget Maldives: Book local island guesthouses on Maafushi, Hulhumale, or Mathiveri instead of private resort islands. Snorkelling, whale shark spotting, and sandbank picnics are available to all budgets, making it one of the most surprising cheap places to visit outside India for those who think the Maldives is out of reach.
5-Day Cost Breakdown
| Cost Item | Budget Traveller | Mid-Range (3-Star) |
|---|
| Flights (AMD, return) | ₹20,000 – 32,000 | ₹30,000 – 45,000 |
| Visa on Arrival fee | FREE | FREE |
| Accommodation / night (local island) | ₹2,500 – 4,000 | ₹5,000 – 10,000 |
| Food / day | ₹1,200 – 2,000 | ₹2,500 – 4,500 |
| Local transport / day | ₹500 – 1,000 | ₹1,000 – 2,500 |

- 30-day stay granted instantly; extendable up to 90 days total via Maldives Immigration.
- Mandatory: Complete the IMUGA travel declaration online at imuga.immigration.gov.mv at least 96 hours before arrival (free), and again before departure.
Best Time to Visit
November–April (dry northeast monsoon — clearest waters, best snorkelling, ideal beach weather). May–October is wet season (prices drop 30–40%, water remains warm and blue).
Top Experiences
- Maafushi local island: bikini beach, house reef snorkelling, diving — the best budget Maldives experience
- Whale shark spotting at Ari Atoll (seasonal June–November, day trip from ₹3,500)
- Sandbank picnic excursion — a white sandbar in the middle of turquoise ocean
- Bioluminescent beach (glowing plankton) at night — Vaadhoo Island or similar
- Dolphin watching cruise at sunset (from ₹1,500 per person)
🇮🇳 GujjuTours Gujarati & Jain Tip:- Maldives is a conservative Muslim country — dress modestly in public areas of local islands (cover shoulders and knees away from the designated bikini beach).
- Alcohol is restricted on local islands.
- Most guesthouses can arrange vegetarian Indian meals on advance request. Indian restaurants exist in Male's commercial area.
- The IMUGA declaration is free and online — complete it 4 days before arrival to avoid airport delays.

10. Georgia — e-Visa Required for Indians, Europe's Hidden Gem
⚠️ Correction: Georgia is widely (and incorrectly) advertised online as "visa-free for 1 year" for Indians. That generous visa-free rule only applies if you already hold a valid US, UK, or Schengen visa or residence permit — in which case you can enter visa-free for up to 90 days (the 1-year figure refers to a separate, specific long-term D5 immigration visa category, not standard tourism). Ordinary Indian passport holders without one of those foreign visas need to apply for a Georgian e-Visa in advance.
Georgia (the Caucasus country) is still excellent value for Indians, even though it is not the no-questions-asked visa-free destination it's sometimes made out to be. Tbilisi's cobblestone old town, the dramatic Caucasus mountains of Kazbegi, ancient cave monasteries, and the birthplace of wine culture make Georgia extraordinary value once you've sorted the e-Visa. A 5-day Tbilisi and Kazbegi trip from Ahmedabad comfortably fits within ₹60,000.
5-Day Cost Breakdown
| Cost Item | Budget Traveller | Mid-Range (3-Star) |
|---|
| Flights (AMD, return, via Dubai/Istanbul/Baku) | ₹30,000 – 45,000 | ₹42,000 – 58,000 |
| e-Visa fee (if no US/UK/Schengen visa) | ~USD 20 (₹1,700–2,500 incl. service fee) | ~USD 20 |
| Accommodation / night | ₹1,200 – 2,500 | ₹2,800 – 6,000 |
| Food / day | ₹800 – 1,400 | ₹1,800 – 3,500 |
| Local transport / day | ₹400 – 700 | ₹800 – 1,800 |
| Total 5-day trip (per person) | ₹40,000 – 58,000 | ₹58,000 – 80,000 |
Europe on ₹60,000–1,00,000 — 5-Day Comparison: Georgia vs Albania vs Serbia
| Country | Visa for Indians | Return Flight from AMD | Budget/Day on Ground | 5-Day Total (Budget) |
|---|
| Georgia | e-Visa (~$20); visa-free 90 days only with valid US/UK/Schengen visa | ₹30,000 – 45,000 | ₹2,500 – 4,500 | ₹40,000 – 58,000 |
| Albania | Visa on Arrival | ₹38,000 – 55,000 | ₹2,000 – 4,000 | ₹48,000 – 72,000 |
| Serbia | Visa-Free, 30 days | ₹35,000 – 52,000 | ₹2,500 – 5,000 | ₹45,000 – 72,000 |
Albania: growing fast in popularity among Indian travellers, cheapest EU-adjacent country. Serbia: genuinely visa-free for Indians, no e-visa needed, and Belgrade's cultural scene is exceptional — for travellers who want zero visa paperwork, Serbia is actually the simpler choice over Georgia.
Visa for Indians
- Most Indian travellers: apply for a Georgian e-Visa at evisa.gov.ge — roughly USD 20 government fee for standard processing (5–7 working days) plus a mandatory two-step identity verification (DuVerify) step. Travel insurance with at least €30,000 medical coverage has been mandatory since 1 January 2026.
- Visa-free exception: if you hold a valid, unexpired US visa, UK visa, Schengen visa, or residence permit from a qualifying country, you can enter Georgia visa-free for up to 90 days — the 1-year visa-free figure quoted elsewhere online applies only to a specific D5 long-term immigration visa, not standard tourism, and should not be relied on when planning a holiday.
- Passport: minimum 6 months validity, at least 2 blank pages.
Best Time to Visit
May–June and September–October (mild weather, Kazbegi accessible, fewer crowds, hiking trails open). December–February for skiing at Gudauri (budget ski resort). Avoid deep winter for mountain road driving.
Top Experiences
- Tbilisi Old Town: Narikala Fortress, Abanotubani sulphur bathhouses, Dry Bridge flea market
- Kazbegi (Stepantsminda): Gergeti Trinity Church with Caucasus mountain backdrop — one of Europe's iconic views
- Sighnaghi: 'City of Love' in wine country Kakheti, fortified walls at sunset
- Vardzia Cave Monastery — 12th century cave city carved into a cliff face
- Mtskheta: ancient capital, Svetitskhoveli Cathedral, UNESCO heritage (30 min from Tbilisi)
🇮🇳 GujjuTours Gujarati & Jain Tip:- Georgian cuisine is cheese-heavy and meat-centric, but vegetarians are well-catered to in Tbilisi's Vake and Vera neighbourhoods.
- Khachapuri (cheese bread) is vegetarian. Lobiani (bean-filled bread) is a Jain-friendly staple.
- Pkhali (walnut-vegetable balls) may contain onion — ask before ordering.
- Tbilisi has excellent Indian restaurants — a great option for familiar food after days of Caucasian cuisine. The Georgian Lari (GEL) is stable; exchange in Tbilisi for best rates.
11. Laos — Visa on Arrival, Southeast Asia's Most Peaceful
Laos is the quietest and most authentic country in Southeast Asia — a land of golden Buddhist temples, the mighty Mekong River, and genuine off-the-beaten-path serenity. It consistently ranks among the cheapest countries to travel from India for daily on-ground expenses. A 5-day trip covering Luang Prabang and Vang Vieng from Ahmedabad fits under ₹55,000, making it one of the most underappreciated cheap international vacations from India available in 2026.
5-Day Cost Breakdown
| Cost Item | Budget Traveller | Mid-Range (3-Star) |
|---|
| Flights (AMD, return) | ₹25,000 – 42,000 | ₹38,000 – 55,000 |
| Visa on Arrival fee | USD 30–45 (cash) | USD 30–45 |
| Accommodation / night | ₹800 – 1,500 | ₹2,000 – 4,500 |
| Food / day | ₹500 – 800 | ₹1,000 – 2,000 |
| Local transport / day | ₹400 – 700 | ₹800 – 1,500 |
| Total 5-day trip (per person) | ₹32,000 – 50,000 | ₹48,000 – 68,000 |
Visa for Indians

- e-Visa also available at laoevisa.gov.la — now around USD 50, processing roughly 3 working days; the e-visa is valid 60 days from issue but still only permits a 30-day stay.
- Passport: 6-month validity. Stay: 30 days, extendable.
Best Time to Visit
November–March (dry season — Luang Prabang at its best, Mekong navigable). Avoid April (extreme heat up to 40°C). That Luang Festival in Vientiane (November) is spectacular.

- Luang Prabang: Wat Xieng Thong temple, alms-giving ceremony at dawn (tak bat), Kuang Si Waterfalls
- Vang Vieng: Blue Lagoon swimming, Tham Chang Cave, Mekong river kayaking

- 4,000 Islands (Si Phan Don) in the south — hammock island life on the Mekong
- Pak Ou Caves: thousands of Buddha statues in limestone riverside caves (day trip from Luang Prabang)
🇮🇳 GujjuTours Gujarati & Jain Tip:- Lao cuisine uses fish sauce and fermented fish paste widely. Sticky rice (khao niao) is a safe staple — request with vegetables.
- In Luang Prabang, several Buddhist-influenced restaurants cater to vegetarians near the night market. Download a Lao vegetarian phrase card.
- Budget tip: Kuang Si Waterfall entry fee is USD 5 — bring a picnic from the morning market and spend a full day.
- The Lao Kip makes INR go very far (1 INR ≈ 165 LAK).
12. Jordan — Visa on Arrival, Petra & Dead Sea
Jordan is the gateway to the ancient world — home to Petra (one of the New Seven Wonders), the mineral-rich Dead Sea, Wadi Rum's red desert, and Rome-era Jerash. For Indian travellers looking for best international destinations from India in the Middle East, Jordan offers a compelling mix of history, adventure, and cultural richness. Visa on Arrival is available for Indians at Queen Alia International Airport. The Jordan Pass (from USD 70-ish, depending on the Petra package) bundles your visa with entry to 40+ attractions and waives the JOD 40 visa fee outright — but only if you buy it before arrival and stay at least 2–3 consecutive nights in Jordan. A 5-day Jordan trip fits around ₹55,000–60,000.
5-Day Cost Breakdown
| Cost Item | Budget Traveller | Mid-Range (3-Star) |
|---|
| Flights (AMD, return) | ₹25,000 – 40,000 | ₹38,000 – 52,000 |

Visa for Indians
- Visa on Arrival for Indians at Queen Alia International Airport, Amman. Fee: JOD 40 (approximately ₹4,500–5,300).
- Smart tip: Purchase the Jordan Pass online at jordanpass.jo before you fly. It waives the JOD 40 visa fee entirely and includes Petra entry, but only if you stay a minimum of 2–3 consecutive nights in Jordan — if you leave earlier, you'll be charged the standard JOD 40 visa fee at departure regardless of the pass.
- Passport: 6-month validity.
Best Time to Visit
March–May (spring, perfect temperature, wildflowers around Wadi Rum) and September–November (golden desert light, comfortable temperatures, less crowded). Avoid June–August (desert heat up to 40°C+).
Top Experiences
- Petra: walk the Siq canyon, reach The Treasury (Al-Khazneh) at dawn for solitude (2 days recommended)
- Wadi Rum: Bedouin jeep safari and overnight desert camp under the stars (from USD 50/person)
- Dead Sea: float effortlessly, apply mineral mud, sunset views of Israel across the water
- Jerash: Rome-era ruins, chariot races, among the best-preserved Roman cities outside Italy
- Amman: Roman Citadel (free), Jordan Museum, Rainbow Street food scene
🇮🇳 GujjuTours Gujarati & Jain Tip:- Arabic mezze — hummus, falafel, mutabbal, fattoush, ful (fava beans) — are all vegetarian and delicious staples in Jordan.
- Mansaf (national dish) is lamb-based but vegetarian platters are available everywhere.
- For Jains: specify no onion, no garlic at restaurants — Jordanians are very accommodating of dietary requirements.
- Carry USD in cash — JOD is not easily exchanged in India. Jordan is one of the Middle East's safest destinations.
13. Myanmar — Ancient Bagan (Check Advisory Before Booking)
⚠️ Travel Advisory Caution: As of 2026, several governments (including the US and Australia) maintain "Do Not Travel" advisories for Myanmar, citing civil unrest, armed conflict, and unpredictable enforcement of local laws — particularly near the Chinese, Thai, and Indian borders. The core tourist circuit (Yangon, Mandalay, Bagan, Inle Lake) continues to operate and receive visitors, but please check the latest Indian MEA advisory at mea.gov.in before booking, register your travel with the Indian Embassy if possible, and avoid border-adjacent regions entirely.
Myanmar's 2,000+ Bagan pagodas, Inle Lake's floating villages, and Mandalay's royal palaces are among Southeast Asia's most extraordinary sights — and daily costs are exceptionally low, placing it high on any list of cheap countries to visit from India. Tourist arrivals remain well below pre-2021 levels, so popular sites are far less crowded than they used to be, but the entry process has become slower: Visa on Arrival is currently suspended, so a pre-approved e-Visa is mandatory, with processing times that can run up to 2–3 weeks. Banking is unreliable and the country runs largely on cash (USD), so plan accordingly.
5-Day Cost Breakdown
| Cost Item | Budget Traveller | Mid-Range (3-Star) |
|---|
| Flights (AMD, return, via Bangkok/Singapore/KL) | ₹25,000 – 40,000 | ₹38,000 – 52,000 |
| e-Visa fee | USD 50 (₹4,200) | USD 50 (₹4,200) |
| Accommodation / night | ₹800 – 1,800 | ₹2,200 – 5,000 |
| Food / day | ₹500 – 900 | ₹1,200 – 2,200 |
| Local transport / day | ₹400 – 700 | ₹800 – 1,500 |
| Total 5-day trip (per person) | ₹33,000 – 50,000 | ₹50,000 – 70,000 |
Visa for Indians
- e-Visa mandatory — apply at evisa.gov.mm well in advance (USD 50, allow up to 2–3 weeks for processing given current conditions). Visa on Arrival is currently suspended.
- Carry proof of accommodation for at least your first 3 nights, a return flight ticket, and a detailed itinerary — immigration officials are requesting more documentation than before.
- IMPORTANT: Check the Indian Ministry of External Affairs travel advisory at mea.gov.in before any Myanmar booking.
Top Experiences
- Bagan: sunrise and sunset over 2,000+ ancient pagodas (e-bike rental ₹500/day, archaeological zone pass USD 25)
- Shwedagon Pagoda in Yangon — Southeast Asia's most sacred Buddhist site
- Inle Lake: leg-rowing fishermen, floating vegetable gardens, Shan State cuisine
- Mandalay: Mandalay Hill, Kuthodaw Pagoda, U Bein Bridge at sunset
- Mount Popa: extinct volcano with hilltop monastery
🇮🇳 GujjuTours Gujarati & Jain Tip:- Buddhist culture in Myanmar means vegetarian options are widely available in temple towns.
- Rice and vegetable curries, tofu salad (especially in Shan State), and mohinga soup (ask for vegetarian broth) are common.
- Carry clean USD cash in small denominations — cards are often unreliable and ATMs run dry on weekends. Exchange at Yangon airport on arrival for the best rates.
14. Uzbekistan — Silk Road, Samarkand & Bukhara
Uzbekistan is Central Asia's most accessible and affordable destination — the Silk Road cities of Samarkand, Bukhara, and Khiva are UNESCO-listed masterpieces of Islamic architecture that feel like walking into the Arabian Nights. For Indian travellers seeking cheap international vacations from India that are genuinely off the beaten path, Uzbekistan is of extraordinary value. The e-Visa costs around USD 20. A 5-day trip from Ahmedabad is achievable under ₹58,000.
5-Day Cost Breakdown
| Cost Item | Budget Traveller | Mid-Range (3-Star) |
|---|
| Flights (AMD, return) | ₹28,000 – 45,000 | ₹42,000 – 58,000 |

🇮🇳 GujjuTours Gujarati & Jain Tip:- Uzbek cuisine is rice and meat-heavy (plov = mutton rice) but samsa pastry with potato or pumpkin filling and lagman noodle soup can be ordered vegetarian.
- Non bread (Uzbek flatbread) is always vegetarian and delicious. In Bukhara, tourist restaurants are used to European dietary preferences — show your requirements clearly.
- Carry USD — widely accepted alongside Uzbek Som.
15. Kenya — Maasai Mara Safari
Kenya is Africa's most accessible safari destination for Indian travellers — and has a thriving Gujarati-origin community making navigation easier than expected. The Maasai Mara hosts the Great Migration (July–October), one of nature's greatest spectacles. Kenya now processes Indian travellers through an Electronic Travel Authorisation (eTA) system rather than the older e-Visa — a 90-day, generally single-entry authorisation that takes the place of a visa. With budget safari camps, a 5-day Kenya trip from Ahmedabad starts around ₹55,000–60,000. It's one of the most extraordinary best countries to visit from India for a once-in-a-lifetime wildlife experience within a budget framework.
5-Day Cost Breakdown
| Cost Item | Budget Traveller | Mid-Range (3-Star) |
|---|
| Flights (AMD, return) | ₹28,000 – 45,000 | ₹42,000 – 58,000 |
| eTA fee | ~USD 30–35 (₹2,600–3,000, confirm current rate) | ~USD 30–35 |

Visa for Indians
- Electronic Travel Authorisation (eTA) required — apply at the official Kenya eTA portal at least 5 business days before travel. Valid for tourism, business, and transit, allowing a stay of up to 90 days, generally single-entry (multi-country East Africa itineraries with Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda etc. immediately following Kenya may keep the same eTA valid on return — check current rules).
- Carry: passport (6-month validity), yellow fever vaccination certificate (check if required based on your routing), return ticket, and safari/hotel booking.
Best Time to Visit
July–October for the Great Migration in Maasai Mara. January–February for dry season safari. Avoid April–June (long rains).
Top Experiences
- Maasai Mara National Reserve: Big Five safari, wildebeest river crossings (Jul–Oct)
- Amboseli National Park: elephant herds with Mount Kilimanjaro backdrop
- Nairobi: Giraffe Centre, David Sheldrick Elephant Orphanage, Karen Blixen Museum
- Lake Nakuru: flamingo colonies, white rhino sanctuary
- Lamu Old Town: UNESCO Swahili heritage, pristine beaches
🇮🇳 GujjuTours Gujarati & Jain Tip:- Nairobi and Mombasa have a significant Gujarati community — find Gujarati thali restaurants, Jain food options, and shops run by Patidars and Lohanas.
- Safari camps routinely prepare vegetarian and Jain meals on advance request — notify at booking.
- Carry USD in cash — widely accepted alongside Kenyan Shilling.
16. Tanzania — Serengeti & Zanzibar
Tanzania combines two of Africa's greatest experiences: Serengeti wildlife safari and Zanzibar's white-sand beaches. For Indian travellers looking for best international destinations from India that deliver Africa's very best in a single trip, Tanzania is the answer. Zanzibar alone (5 days) is achievable under ₹60,000 with careful flight selection.

|---|
| Flights (AMD, return) | ₹30,000 – 48,000 | ₹45,000 – 62,000 |
| e-Visa fee | USD 50 (₹4,200, confirm current rate) | USD 50 |
| Accommodation / night (Zanzibar budget) | ₹1,500 – 3,500 | ₹5,000 – 12,000 |
| Food / day | ₹1,000 – 1,800 | ₹2,000 – 4,000 |
| Local transport / day | ₹800 – 1,500 | ₹2,000 – 5,000 |
| Total 5-day trip (per person, Zanzibar focus) | ₹42,000 – 60,000 | ₹65,000 – 1,00,000 |
Visa for Indians
- e-Visa for Indians: apply at the official Tanzania e-Visa portal (visa.immigration.go.tz). Fee and processing time can vary by season — budget for roughly USD 50 and at least a week's processing, and confirm the current fee before paying, since East African visa fee structures have changed more than once in the last two years.
- Passport: 6-month validity required.
Best Time to Visit
- June–October for safari season (best wildlife viewing in Serengeti and Ngorongoro).
- January–February for calving season and excellent game viewing.

- Serengeti National Park: Big Five safari, wildebeest migration (Jul–Aug), hot air balloon sunrise
- Ngorongoro Crater: highest density of predators on Earth, 25 km wide volcanic caldera
- Prison Island (Zanzibar): giant Aldabra tortoises, snorkelling in the marine park
- Forodhani Night Market (Stone Town): Zanzibari street food — amazing and ultra-cheap
🇮🇳 GujjuTours Gujarati & Jain Tip: Zanzibar has Indian Ocean trading heritage — local cuisine (pilau rice, coconut curries, chapati) is familiar and can be ordered vegetarian easily. Forodhani Night Market has plenty of vegetarian options. Indian restaurants exist in Stone Town. Carry USD — essential in both mainland Tanzania and Zanzibar.
17. Seychelles — Free Visitor Permit on Arrival
Seychelles — 115 granite and coral islands in the Indian Ocean — issues a free Visitor's Permit on arrival for almost all nationalities (Kosovo passport holders are the one exception), making it one of the rare cheapest country to visit from India without visa cost surprises on this list. While resort islands are expensive, budget guesthouses and self-catering apartments on Mahé, Praslin, and La Digue bring this Indian Ocean paradise within reach. A 5-day trip from Ahmedabad pushing ₹60,000–65,000 is realistic — this is the most premium entry on this list and requires careful budget management.
5-Day Cost Breakdown
| Cost Item | Budget Traveller | Mid-Range (3-Star) |

- No visa required for Indians. A free Visitor's Permit is issued on arrival at Seychelles International Airport, initially for up to 3 months, extendable in further 3-month blocks (fee applies for extensions) up to a 12-month maximum.
- Mandatory step many guides skip: all travellers, including Indians, must obtain an Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) online via the Seychelles e-Border system before departure — this is separate from, and in addition to, the free Visitor's Permit issued on arrival.
- Requirement: Return ticket, confirmed accommodation, and proof of funds (around USD 150/day) may be checked at immigration. Passport: 6-month validity required.
Top Experiences

🇮🇳 GujjuTours Gujarati & Jain Tip:- Self-catering apartments (from ₹3,500/night) are the key to budget Seychelles — cook your own Gujarati meals and bring basic spices from home.
- Seychellois Creole cuisine is coconut-based with fresh fish, but vegetarian options are available. Indian grocery stores exist in Victoria.
- Air Seychelles occasionally has India-specific promotional fares — sign up for alerts.

- Look for Indian thali restaurants in Port Louis's market area. For Jain food, call ahead to confirm at Grand Baie Indian restaurants.

19. Ethiopia — Africa's Ancient Kingdom
Ethiopia is Africa's most historically extraordinary country — the only major African nation never colonised, home to Lalibela's magnificent rock-hewn churches, the ancient Axum obelisks, the birthplace of coffee, and the dramatic Simien Mountains. Ethiopian Airlines connects Addis Ababa excellently with Ahmedabad, making it one of the most convenient best countries to visit from India in Africa. A 5-day Addis Ababa and Lalibela trip fits around ₹50,000–60,000 and delivers an experience unlike anything else in the world.
5-Day Cost Breakdown
| Cost Item | Budget Traveller | Mid-Range (3-Star) |
|---|
| Flights (AMD, return) | ₹25,000 – 40,000 | ₹38,000 – 52,000 |
| e-Visa fee | USD 50–52 (₹4,200–4,400, confirm current rate) | USD 50–52 |
| Accommodation / night | ₹1,200 – 2,500 | ₹3,000 – 7,000 |

Visa for Indians
- e-Visa for Indians: apply at evisa.gov.et (around USD 50–52, processing 3–5 business days, single entry up to 30 days).
- Visa on Arrival is also available at Addis Ababa Bole International Airport, but the e-Visa is recommended to avoid airport queues.
- Passport: 6-month validity required.
Top Experiences
- Lalibela: 11 medieval rock-hewn churches, active Ethiopian Christian pilgrimage site
- Axum: ancient obelisks, Queen of Sheba's palace ruins
- Addis Ababa: National Museum (Lucy fossil), Merkato (Africa's largest open market), traditional coffee ceremony
- Simien Mountains: trekking with endemic Gelada baboons and Ethiopian wolves
- Omo Valley: traditional tribal cultures
🇮🇳 GujjuTours Gujarati & Jain Tip:- Ethiopian cuisine is naturally vegetarian-friendly — injera (sourdough flatbread) with misir wat (red lentil stew), shiro (chickpea paste), and timatim salad are all vegetarian.
- Ethiopian Orthodox Christians observe many meat-free fasting days — ask for 'ye-tsom migib' (fasting food) at restaurants for a purely vegetarian meal.
- This is probably the most vegetarian-friendly African country on this list.
- Ethiopian coffee — the world's original — is a revelation; participate in a traditional coffee ceremony.
20. Oman — India's Closest Arab Neighbour, e-Visa
Oman is the Middle East's most underrated destination — dramatic fjords (khors), ancient fortresses, pristine desert dunes at Wahiba Sands, emerald wadi pools, and one of the world's safest travel environments. Muscat is only 2.5 hours from Ahmedabad — closer than many Indian cities — making it one of the most accessible countries near India to visit in the Middle East. Oman is not visa-free for Indians; the e-Visa costs around USD 20, and a 5-day Muscat and Nizwa trip fits comfortably under ₹58,000.
5-Day Cost Breakdown
| Cost Item | Budget Traveller | Mid-Range (3-Star) |
|---|
| Flights (AMD, return) | ₹18,000 – 30,000 | ₹28,000 – 42,000 |
| e-Visa fee | USD 20 (₹1,700–2,000) | USD 20 |
| Accommodation / night | ₹1,500 – 3,000 | ₹3,500 – 8,000 |
| Food / day | ₹900 – 1,800 | ₹2,000 – 4,500 |
| Local transport / day | ₹600 – 1,200 | ₹1,500 – 3,000 |
| Total 5-day trip (per person) | ₹28,000 – 48,000 | ₹48,000 – 68,000 |
Visa for Indians
- Oman is not visa-free for Indians. e-Visa required — apply at evisa.rop.gov.om (around USD 20 single entry, processing 1–3 days, 30 days stay).
- Oman also offers a Multiple Entry Tourist Visa (around USD 50, 1 year validity).
- Visa on Arrival exists only under narrow conditions (e.g., certain GCC residents) and does not apply to most Indian tourists travelling directly from India — apply for the e-Visa in advance. Passport: 6-month validity.
Best Time to Visit
October–April (pleasant 22–30°C, perfect for wadis, forts, and desert). Avoid May–September (extreme heat, 40–48°C). Special: Khareef season in Salalah (July–August) brings unique green monsoon mountains and waterfalls.
Top Experiences
- Muscat: Sultan Qaboos Grand Mosque (open to non-Muslims), Muttrah Souq, Royal Opera House
- Wahiba Sands desert: overnight Bedouin camp, dune bashing by 4WD
- Wadi Shab: turquoise emerald pools and hidden cave waterfall swim — Oman's most stunning day hike
- Nizwa Fort and Friday Souq: silver jewellery, Omani halwa, goat market
- Jebel Shams ('Grand Canyon of Oman'): 2,000m elevation, dramatic gorge views
🇮🇳 GujjuTours Gujarati & Jain Tip:- Oman has a long-established Gujarati community — Kutchi Memons, Khojas, and Bohri Muslims have traded with Oman for centuries. You will hear Gujarati spoken in Muttrah Souq.
- Indian vegetarian restaurants are plentiful in Ruwi (Muscat's Indian quarter). Arabic mezze (hummus, falafel, fattoush) are vegetarian staples.
- Oman is consistently rated among the world's safest destinations — excellent for families and first-time solo women travellers from India.
Complete Travel Planning Guide — Budget International Trips from India (2026)
Planning a cheap international trip from India in 2026 involves more than picking a destination. Here's the definitive planning framework used by GujjuTours — covering the best booking windows, flight strategies, currency, travel insurance, and itinerary tips specifically for Indian travellers, including Gujarati and Jain families travelling from Ahmedabad.
When to Book for Cheapest Flights from India?
The single biggest factor in how cheap your international trip turns out is your booking window and travel timing. GujjuTours data from 2025–26 shows the following patterns consistently:
| Destination | Cheapest Months to Fly | Book How Far Ahead | Avoid (Peak / Expensive) |
|---|
| Nepal | Feb–Mar, Sep–Oct | 6–8 weeks | Diwali week, New Year |
| Thailand | Feb–Mar, Sep | 8–10 weeks | Dec–Jan, Songkran (Apr) |
| Malaysia | Feb–Apr, Sep–Oct | 6–8 weeks | Dec–Jan, Eid periods |
| Bali | Mar–May, Sep–Nov | 8–12 weeks | Jul–Aug, New Year |
| Sri Lanka | Feb–Apr, Sep–Oct | 4–6 weeks | Dec–Jan peak |
| Maldives | May–Oct (wet season) | 6–10 weeks | Dec–Jan, Valentine's |
| Kenya / Tanzania | Apr–Jun, Oct–Nov | 12–16 weeks | Jul–Aug (peak wildebeest migration) |
How to Find the Cheapest Flights from Ahmedabad Airport (AMD)?
- Use Google Flights date grid: open the calendar view to see which exact dates are cheapest — often a Tuesday or Wednesday departure vs Friday saves ₹4,000–8,000 per person.
- Set fare alerts: Google Flights, Skyscanner, and Kayak all allow alerts for specific routes. Set one for AMD–BKK, AMD–KUL, or AMD–KTM 2–3 months before your trip.
- Compare AMD vs BOM departure: Some routes (especially AMD–CMB, AMD–MLE) are cheaper when starting from Mumbai (BOM), even after adding the BOM domestic leg. Worth comparing.
- Check IndiGo, Air India, and AirAsia Freedom Sales: All three run periodic mega sales (announced on social media) where international fares from Ahmedabad can drop by 40–60%. Sign up for email alerts.
- Book open jaw where possible: Fly into Hanoi, out of Ho Chi Minh City — or into Phuket, out of Bangkok. Avoids backtracking and can actually be cheaper.
- Avoid airport currency exchange: You'll lose 8–12% on the exchange rate. Use a Niyo Global or IDFC First Bank forex card, or withdraw local currency from ATMs at your destination.

Visa Application Timeline — International Travel from India
Recommended Lead Times Before Travel
- 3–4 months before: Research destinations, compare flight prices, set fare alerts
- 8–12 weeks before: Book flights (best prices for most destinations)
- 6–8 weeks before: Apply for e-Visas (Vietnam, Cambodia, Kenya, Oman, Georgia, Ethiopia)
- 4–6 weeks before: Book hotels and accommodation; purchase travel insurance
- 2–3 weeks before: Confirm visa approvals; recheck visa rules (especially Thailand in 2026)
- 72–96 hours before: Complete TDAC (Thailand), MDAC (Malaysia), IMUGA (Maldives), SATUSEHAT (Bali)
- Day before: Web check-in for flights, carry physical copies of all visa and hotel documents
GujjuTours Insider Tip: Always carry physical printouts of your visa approvals, hotel bookings, and return flight tickets. Immigration officers in Malaysia, Thailand, and Bali routinely ask for paper evidence even when digital is allowed — being prepared saves hours of stress at the airport.
25 Expert Travel Tips for Indian Budget Travellers (2026)
After planning 5,000+ international trips for Indian families, here are the most important budget travel tips our team at GujjuTours consistently shares with travellers from Ahmedabad and Gujarat:
Flight & Booking Tips
- Use the Google Flights date grid to spot the cheapest day to fly — shifting by 1–2 days can save ₹4,000–10,000.
- Clear your browser cache or use incognito mode when searching flights — prices sometimes rise after repeated searches.
- Book return flights together (not one-way + return separately) — round-trip fares are usually cheaper.
- Compare AMD vs BOM as departure point — the cheaper BOM fare often offsets the AMD–BOM domestic ticket cost.
- Set Google Flights price alerts 3–4 months ahead for your target destination — you'll catch sales automatically.
- Join IndiGo's 6E Prime or Air India's Flying Returns — points accumulate fast on international routes.
- Add travel insurance at booking — post-departure insurance is invalid for pre-existing claims.
Money & Currency Tips
- Never exchange currency at the airport — lose 8–12%. Use city centre exchange counters or bank ATMs at your destination.
- Carry a Niyo Global or IDFC First Bank forex card — zero forex markup on withdrawals and purchases abroad.
- Keep USD 100–200 in small bills for visa-on-arrival fees, tips, and emergencies in Myanmar, Laos, and Cambodia.
- In Nepal and Bhutan, Indian Rupees are accepted (₹100 and lower notes widely; carry small denominations).
- Notify your Indian bank of travel dates — cards frequently get blocked for suspicious overseas transactions if you don't.
- Use UPI only in Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bhutan, and Malaysia where Indian UPI is officially accepted — it's not available in most other countries on this list.
Accommodation Tips
- Book hotels with free cancellation until visa approval is confirmed — non-refundable hotel fees are the biggest avoidable loss if a visa is delayed.
- Stay in locally-run guesthouses in Kathmandu's Thamel, Siem Reap, and Luang Prabang — half the price of branded hotels, just as clean.
- For Maldives, book local island guesthouses on Maafushi or Mathiveri instead of resort islands — 5x cheaper for the same turquoise water experience.
- Compare Booking.com and Agoda — same property often has different prices across platforms. Agoda typically wins for Southeast Asia.
- Check if the property is GST-registered for India — not relevant abroad, but useful for reimbursable corporate trips.
- Ask for ground-floor rooms if you're travelling with elderly family members — not all budget guesthouses have lifts.
Gujarati & Jain Traveller Tips
- Always carry a printed vegetarian/Jain dietary restriction card in the local language — Malaysia, Thailand, Vietnam especially. GujjuTours provides these with every tour package.
- Pack khakhras, chakli, sev, and dry snacks from Ahmedabad for emergency meals in countries like Cambodia, Myanmar, and Laos where pure veg is harder to find.
- Google "Jain food [city name]" before departure — Indian diaspora communities in Kuala Lumpur, Muscat, Tbilisi, and Mauritius often have Jain-friendly options.
- At temple sites, check modesty requirements in advance — sarongs required in Bali temples, covered shoulders/knees in Bhutan dzongs, non-leather shoes removed at Kathmandu temples.
- Say "Jay food" in Thailand (เจ), "Com Chay" in Vietnam, and "Sayur saja" (vegetables only) in Malaysia/Indonesia to signal pure vegetarian meals.
- For Paryushan travel: Nepal, Malaysia, and Mauritius have Jain sanghas that can connect you with the local community for puja and satsang.
Apps Every Indian International Traveller Needs in 2026
Google Flights — fare tracking & date grid
Niyo Global — zero-fee international card
Wise — cheapest international money transfers
Google Translate — offline languages for Thailand, Vietnam, Cambodia
Maps.me — offline maps for Nepal, Bhutan, rural Sri Lanka
Grab — safe, app-based taxis in Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam, Bali
XE Currency — real-time exchange rate reference
Biggest Mistakes Indians Make When Booking Cheap International Trips
After planning over 200 international trips for Gujarati families, here are the most common — and costly — mistakes we see repeated:
- Booking non-refundable hotels before visa approval. Apply for your visa or ETA first. Always. Hotel cancellation fees can wipe out your savings if a visa is delayed or denied.
- Assuming a visa rule you read online is still current. 2026 has seen Thailand, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, and Kenya all change their entry rules for Indians within months of each other. Re-check the official embassy or e-visa site within a week or two of departure — not just when you first started planning.
- Skipping travel insurance to save ₹500. Medical costs in Thailand, Indonesia, and Cambodia can run into lakhs without coverage. A comprehensive policy costs ₹500–1,500 for a 5-day trip. Non-negotiable — and now mandatory for Georgia specifically.
- Not checking ATM availability before departure. Laos, Cambodia, Myanmar, and rural Georgia have limited or unreliable ATMs outside tourist zones. Carry a mix of USD cash and a forex card (Niyo Global or IDFC First Bank). Never rely solely on UPI abroad.
- Underestimating Bangkok-to-island transfer costs. Getting from Bangkok to Krabi or Koh Samui adds a night bus or domestic flight (₹3,000–8,000) that many budgets don't account for. Plan island legs separately.
- Not completing TDAC / MDAC / IMUGA / Bali Tourist Levy pre-arrival forms. Thailand, Malaysia, the Maldives, and Bali all require digital arrival forms or levies completed before boarding or on arrival. Missing these has caused Indians to be denied check-in or delayed at immigration.
- Travelling to peak season without booking 8–12 weeks ahead. Flights to Nepal, Thailand, and Malaysia triple during Diwali week and New Year. The same trip costs 40–60% less in February–March or September–October. See our guide to places to visit outside India in Diwali vacation.
- Not declaring dietary requirements at booking. For Jain travellers especially, communicate your requirements at the time of hotel and tour booking — not on arrival. Safari camps, cruise ships, and theme parks need 3–7 days notice.

Frequently Asked Questions — Budget International Travel for Indians (2026)

Nepal is the cheapest country to visit from India in 2026. A 5-day Kathmandu and Pokhara trip costs as little as ₹25,000–38,000 per person all-in including return flights from Ahmedabad on IndiGo (AMD–DEL–KTM), 3-star guesthouse accommodation in Thamel, local meals, and entry fees. No visa is required for Indian passport holders, Indian Rupees are accepted widely, and the cultural familiarity makes it the ideal first international trip for any Indian traveller.
Nepal (AMD–KTM) is the cheapest international flight from Ahmedabad, with return tickets from ₹20,000–24,000 booked 6–8 weeks ahead. Oman (AMD–MCT, 2.5 hrs flight) follows at ₹18,000–30,000 return, and Sri Lanka (AMD–CMB) at ₹18,000–26,000 return. Maldives (AMD–MLE) starts around ₹20,000–32,000. All four are achievable as full 5-day trips under ₹55,000 per person all-in from Ahmedabad. Also see our guide on visa-free countries for Indian passport 2026.
Truly visa-free countries for Indians in 2026 include Nepal, Mauritius (90 days), Malaysia (until Dec 31, 2026 — air entry only), and Seychelles (Visitor Permit on arrival, free — though the online Travel Authorisation is still required before departure). Thailand is currently visa-free for 60 days but a policy change to Visa-on-Arrival is pending gazette publication. Free-but-mandatory ETA: Sri Lanka (no fee, apply at eta.gov.lk). Free Visa on Arrival: Maldives (30 days, no pre-application). Georgia is not visa-free for standard Indian passport holders — an e-Visa (~USD 20) is required despite what many sites claim. For a complete list, see our top visa-free destinations guide.
Nepal and Bhutan are achievable under ₹30,000 for 4–5 days when flights are booked 6–8 weeks ahead and you stay in guesthouses. Sri Lanka is possible under ₹35,000. These are the consistently cheapest countries to visit from India for Ahmedabad-based travellers on a tight budget. For destinations requiring a little more, Thailand, Vietnam, and Malaysia deliver outstanding value under ₹50,000. See the cost breakdown tables for each destination in this guide. Also check our guide on best places in India during long weekends if your budget is limited.
Easily available: Nepal (Thamel, Kathmandu), Bali (Hindu island — Ubud has exceptional vegan cafes), Malaysia (Little India in Kuala Lumpur's Brickfields, Penang), Mauritius (Indian heritage island, hundreds of veg restaurants), Oman (Indian quarter in Muscat's Ruwi). Manageable with planning: Thailand (request 'Jay food' — เจ), Sri Lanka (South Indian thali widely available), Georgia (vegetarian-friendly cafes in Tbilisi). Requires extra effort: Vietnam, Cambodia, Laos, Myanmar — carry translated dietary restriction cards and Indian instant food from home. GujjuTours provides Gujarati food guidance and Jain-friendly restaurant lists for every destination we operate in.
Yes, as of this writing (24 June 2026), Thailand is still visa-free for Indians for 60 days. However, the Thai Cabinet approved moving India to a Visa-on-Arrival category on 19 May 2026. This change only takes legal effect 15 days after it is published in Thailand's Royal Gazette — and that publication had not happened as of this update. Because the gazette could be published at any time, check thaiembassy.in or the Royal Thai Embassy's official website shortly before travel, especially if your trip is more than 2–3 weeks away. Regardless of visa status, you must complete the TDAC (Thailand Digital Arrival Card) at tdac.immigration.go.th within 72 hours before boarding.
No — not for standard Indian passport holders despite what many travel websites claim. Ordinary Indian travellers need a Georgian e-Visa (~USD 20, apply at evisa.gov.ge, processing 5–7 working days). The widely quoted "visa-free for 1 year" only applies to a specific long-term D5 immigration category, not tourism. The genuine visa-free shortcut (90 days, no e-visa needed) only works if you already hold a valid, unexpired US visa, UK visa, or Schengen visa/residence permit. Travel insurance with at least €30,000 medical coverage has been mandatory for all visitors to Georgia since 1 January 2026.
February–March (post-Uttarayan, pre-summer school exams) and September–October (post-Ganesh Chaturthi, pre-Navratri/Diwali) offer the best combination of lower airfares and excellent weather across Southeast Asia, the Middle East, and East Africa. Strictly avoid April–June (peak summer heat + school holidays = 40–60% higher fares), Diwali week, and December 26–January 1 (New Year surge). The sweet spot is mid-January to end of March for Southeast Asia, and September–October for almost everywhere else.
Indians can visit Nepal without a passport only on land routes — a valid Voter ID card is accepted at overland border crossings such as Raxaul–Birganj and Sunauli–Bhairahawa. For air travel (flights from Ahmedabad, Delhi, or Mumbai to Kathmandu), a valid Indian passport is mandatory. Aadhaar card is not accepted for any international travel, including Nepal by air. Ensure your passport has at least 6 months validity from your travel date.
Georgia (in the Caucasus) is the cheapest European-style destination for Indians — return flights from ₹30,000–45,000 from Ahmedabad, an e-Visa around USD 20, and daily on-ground costs of ₹2,500–4,500. Serbia is genuinely visa-free for Indians (30 days, no prior application needed) and is a close second on value. Albania (Visa on Arrival) is also very budget-friendly. None of these require a Schengen visa. Note: Georgia requires travel insurance with €30,000 medical cover from January 2026 onwards.
Travel insurance is now legally mandatory for Georgia (minimum €30,000 medical coverage, enforced from 1 January 2026). While not officially mandatory for most other countries on this list, it is strongly recommended everywhere. Medical costs in Thailand, Indonesia, and Cambodia can run into lakhs without coverage. A comprehensive international travel insurance policy costs ₹500–1,500 for a 5-day trip — a tiny fraction of the risk it covers. Purchase before departure; it cannot be activated for events that occurred before purchase.
Indians pay a Sustainable Development Fee (SDF) of ₹1,200 per person per night in Bhutan — massively discounted from the USD 100 per night charged to most other nationalities. For a 5-night trip this adds ₹6,000 per person to your budget. The discounted rate is confirmed until 31 August 2027. From 1 January 2026, a 5% GST also applies to tourism services in Bhutan (separate from SDF). A 24-hour exemption applies if you only visit Phuentsholing border town without going deeper into Bhutan.
Nepal is the best first international trip for Indian families — no visa, Indian Rupees accepted, familiar vegetarian food in Thamel, short flight from Ahmedabad, and an extraordinary cultural and natural experience. Malaysia is an excellent second choice for first-timers who want beach and city variety with easy visa-free access through December 2026. Sri Lanka is ideal for families wanting a compact island escape under ₹45,000. For families with children, Bali's combination of Hindu culture, temples, rice terraces, and beaches consistently earns the highest satisfaction ratings in GujjuTours' post-trip surveys. Also explore our guide to Phu Quoc Island for an offbeat Vietnam option.
UPI (BHIM, PhonePe, Google Pay via Indian banks) is now officially accepted in Sri Lanka, Nepal, Bhutan, and Malaysia — use it freely there for shops, restaurants, and smaller payments. In most other countries on this list, UPI does not work. Indian credit and debit cards (Visa/Mastercard) work everywhere, but attract a foreign exchange markup of 3–5% per transaction. Use a Niyo Global or IDFC First Bank Visa card (both offer zero-markup international spending) for best rates. Always carry some USD cash for visa-on-arrival fees and rural areas with poor card acceptance.
